Engineering Shop Certification

An introduction to the Engineering Department’s Shops (This class will repeat 2-3 times per week, and times will change for maximum accommodation.)

An introduction to the Engineering Department’s Shops. Currently located in Whittier Hall 113, Engineering has the facilities to fabricate with metal, wood, some plastics and potentially and materials through classic and advanced methods. This is the first step towards your individual building goals. You’ll meet “J.” the shop’s supervisor, who will advise you of basic shop safety, and etiquette. We will discuss basic hand tools. We will tour the shops with a brief explanation of the machinery, and then begin demonstration and hands on use of some basic machine concepts. Safety glasses are mandatory and provided. Your are expected to wear proper shop attire. (Close toed shoes are required, Long hair must be tied back, No excessively loose garments, or dangling jewelry.) I recommend full length pants.

  • The Engineering Shops are open to all, but please allow for the fact that the departments students may need the shops for academic specific tasks, and will be treated with priority in that respect.
