Lumber Milling 101

In this introductory workshop, learn the basics of milling lumber using a chainsaw mill.

Open to students, staff, and faculty approved to be on campus. This socially distanced, hands-on workshop will teach you the basics of the lumber milling process, which turns logs into usable lumber. Attendees will create slabs from two swamp oak logs recently taken down on Swarthmore’s campus. If attending, please wear closed-toe leather shoes, pants, and a long-sleeve shirt.

Please dress for the weather- the milling will take place outdoors, next to the water tower.

If you can’t come to campus, this event will be live streamed! Stay tuned for details.

  • Sanitized Safety glasses and ear muffs will be provided. We highly recommend you bring a pair of leather or gardening gloves.*
